Slovenian Salsa Congress

Slovenian Salsa Congress
March 12-14, 2010
Lasko-Celje, Slovenia

Going from the first to the fifth event was like climbing the ladder upwards – while there were only 2 dance instructors teaching 20 dance enthusiasts at the first SalsaCongress, four years later it was already 25 dance experts, some of them world-famous, dancing with more than 900 participators from 15 different countries.

SalsaCongress is the only event in Slovenia offering all types of Salsa and top side-events. Besides Salsa this year (2009) we were able to try out Latinotone, Tango Argentino, Step, Swing, Ballroom Dancing and Oriental Dance and all workshops were adapted to different levels. While some of us enjoyed the spa treatment offered at the venue, others were dancing through the night on the Grand Salsa Party, breaking records at the attempt to have the biggest Rueda de Casino in the world or admiring the performers at the Gala Salsa Night. We are planning a Salsa event for 2010 which will be at least as exciting as the last, if not more.

At the SalsaCongress we will be able to learn many dance types from dozens of internationally recognized dance experts. In the past we were dancing with Katarina Venturini, a 23 time national and 4 time world champion together with Andrej Škufca. Among many other awards she even received an Order of Merit by the President of Slovenia Danilo Türk. At one of the past events we were also able to admire Tina Mayer, the Slovenian from Hollywood, who we have seen on American TV-shows like “Dancing with the stars”. Or Esteban Isnardi, an Uruguayan living in Switzerland, who worked together with big names like Ibrahim Ferrer and won the national championship of Rueda de Casino in Switzerland in 2001.

The next congress will be held between the 12th and 14th March in Rogaška Slatina, one of the most popular spa resorts in Slovenia, with lots of water adventures, renewed hotels and a wealth of knowledge about spa treatments. The area was popular among Romans and Celts, as evidenced by several historical finds and the Roman road. Today the town is a symbol for mineral water (Slatina mineral water has been mentioned in 1572 for the first time), spas (a spa has been situated in this area for more than 200 years) and crystal glassware (you can watch the production of crystal glassware at the Rogaška manufactory). Rogaška Slatina is rich with natural heritage with the landscape park Boč and the daffodil flower, which might be blooming around the time of the next SalsaCongress. Since the town was very popular with guests from all over the Habsburg Monarchy back in the 19th century, there is also a lot of cultural heritage to be found, like the spa resort buildings, which are some of the most significant neo-classical buildings in the country.

SalsaCongress by the Dance School Rolly, a dance school with a tradition of 20 years, is one of the most popular dance events in Slovenia, evidenced by the great interest by the Slovenian media, which reported on the event in great length in the past.
